I know you have a choice…

After nursing 3 of my own premature babies, I decided to go into the field of Lactation Consulting.  I had been a Volunteer and Advanced EMT, and it’s always been “in me” to help others.  I saw, (and continue to see), a need for education amongst expecting and new moms in regard to breastfeeding.

“If it weren’t for Polly, I wouldn’t have been able to feed my baby. After problems feeding at the hospital, I was ready to give up. She gave me hope, and provided encouragement and expertise.”

My experience with my own children, coupled with my studies, certification, continuing education and helping those in our community have allowed me to help so many families in Western New York.  I have made it my priority to continue my IBCLC education, studying and passing a rigorous credentialing exam, so that I can give my clients the highest level of care that they would expect from an IBCLC.

My training and education includes:

  • Trained as a Peer Counselor/Coordinator for Erie County WIC
  • Certified Lactation Counselor (1996)
  • Certified Lactation Educator (1997)
  • Clinical Hours for IBCLC: Sisters Hospital
  • IBCLC Certification (2002); continue to re-certify every 5 years
  • Opened BSB in 2008 to further serve families in WNY for maternity, breastfeeding and postpartum support
  • Organized & Founded WNY Pregnancy & Baby Expo (2008-2012)
  • Volunteer & Life Member Advanced EMT at Lancaster Volunteer Ambulance Corps (1980-2017)
  • Volunteer Emergency Medical Dispatcher (2008-2017)

I realize you have a choice.  You can choose a Lactation Educator, Counselor, Specialist or an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.  I have put in many, MANY hours in to educate myself to help YOU. A mother and her newborn have an opportunity to create a bond through their feeding -breastfeeding or bottle feeding- it’s such an important part of that bond. Your care comes with my thousands of hours of studying and experience as an IBCLC.

I’ll continue taking late night calls, opening the shop after hours for the family who needs it, working together with pediatricians and Ob/Gyn offices, helping a mom and her newborn get that latch “just right,” sharing with dads how they can support the new mom in their life, and loving every moment of what I get to do for a living.  Thank you for your continued word-of-mouth referrals and reviews!  I truly appreciate all of you, and will continue to serve our community in the best ways I can.

Warmly,

Polly Thoman, IBCLC
